It's long been held in football that winning 'Manager of the Month' meant that the team would suffer a string of defeats the following month, but with the US Government now reluctant sponsors of Manchester United, joining the UK Government in Premiership sponsorship following Northern Rock, is it fair to say that sponsoring a football team brings bad luck. XL, sponsors of West Ham may have thought so.
